BFT access control installation in Henderson typically costs $450 to $1,400 installed, depending on the device type, wiring distance, and whether we’re replacing a failed unit or adding control to a gate that never had it. We stock BFT-compatible keypads, card readers, intercom modules, and the control boards that tie them into your gate operator. Most owners discover this part has failed when the keypad stops accepting codes, the card reader goes dark, or the gate opens on its own at 2 a.m. because a relay stuck. If you’re dealing with any of that, here’s what you need to know.

We’re Carver Gate Repair Henderson, an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with BFT, but we work on their equipment daily and keep the common access control parts on the truck so we don’t have to make you wait on a shipment from a distributor in Phoenix or Los Angeles.
Key Takeaways:
- Installed BFT access control work in Henderson runs $450 to $1,400, with the price written down before we start
- We carry BFT-compatible keypads, card readers, and control boards for same-day replacement on most calls
- Every installation includes a written one-year guarantee through the 365-Day Done Right Promise
- Lonnie Burke leads the Henderson crew and has been diagnosing BFT opener and access control failures for years without replacing parts that don’t need replacing
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT access control components are built to work across most of the brand’s swing and slide gate operator lines, but there’s a compatibility gotcha that owners miss: the older 24-volt control boards (found in many Rigel and Phobos series units) won’t directly drive newer 12-volt readers and keypads without a relay module. If you’re replacing just the keypad or reader on a BFT that’s been in the ground since the mid-2010s, we check the board voltage before quoting the part so the number you approve is the number that holds.
Here’s the model breakdown we use in Henderson:
- Rigel series (swing gates): Rigel 4, Rigel 5, and the older Rigel 2/3 boards have different accessory connector layouts. We carry pigtail adapters for the common mismatches.
- Phobos series (swing and slide): Phobos output boards changed pin assignments around 2018. A keypad that plugs into a 2019 board without an adapter can blow the accessory fuse on the board itself.
- Deimos and Aries series (slide gates): These run a high-voltage accessory rail; tying a low-voltage reader directly into the wrong terminal set is the most common DIY failure we repair after the fact.
- Aftermarket vs. OEM: For keypads and readers, we’re comfortable installing quality aftermarket units matched to the board voltage. For control boards and safety-loop integration modules, we stick with OEM BFT parts. The board software needs to match the operator firmware, and the aftermarket boards we’ve tested don’t reliably do that.
How to identify your part: the model number is printed on the side of the operator housing and on the board itself. The board will also show a revision letter. If you can read those two things off to us over the phone, we can usually tell you before we roll a truck whether we’re bringing the right part on the first trip.

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t move. This is usually a relay going bad on the keypad’s output or a broken wire between the keypad and the control board. We test the relay first, because replacing a keypad when the wire is the problem means you’ll be replacing it again in six months.
- The card reader beeps but won’t recognize any card. In Henderson’s summer heat, reader sensitivity drifts on units mounted in full sun. We’ve fixed more than a few by remounting the reader into shade with a shim plate and recalibrating it, no new part needed.
- The gate opens on its own or won’t close on command. A stuck relay on the control board. This one is a real security issue, not just an annoyance, because it leaves your property open at unpredictable times. We treat these as priority calls, including overnight.
- The intercom works but the gate release button does nothing. This is usually the auxiliary dry-contact output on the board failing. Boards can be repaired or replaced; we’ll quote both options so you pick.
- Everything works at the panel but not from the remote reader or keypad station. Voltage drop over the wire run. Henderson lots in Anthem Country Club and MacDonald Ranch often have long driveway runs, and we’ve seen 18-gauge wire from original installs that loses enough voltage at the far end to keep a reader from waking up.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Henderson homeowners, here’s what we quote on BFT access control work:
| Job | Typical Installed Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Replace wired keypad (residential) | $450 to $650 | Includes the keypad, weatherproof housing if needed, and integration testing |
| Replace card reader or fob RFID reader | $500 to $750 | Includes reader, mounting hardware, and board relay verification |
| Replace BFT control board (access control section) | $600 to $950 | Includes OEM board, programming, and full function test |
| Add new keypad or reader to gate that never had one | $700 to $1,100 | Includes wire run, conduit where needed, board integration, and programming |
| Full gate station with keypad, reader, and intercom | $1,100 to $1,400 | Includes all parts, labor, and testing; final price depends on wire distance |
What drives the range: wire distance from the gate to the house or station, whether we’re digging in conduit or pulling wire through an existing chase, and the condition of the operator board already in the gate. If the board is original to a unit that’s been in Henderson soil for eight or ten years, we’ll tell you honestly whether it makes sense to replace just the access control piece or address the board at the same time, because your new keypad won’t fix an aging board.

Every price is written down and agreed before any work starts. The 365-Day Done Right Promise means the access control installation carries a one-year guarantee in writing. If something fails inside that year, the second visit costs you nothing.
DIY or Call Us?
Access control work on a BFT gate runs on low voltage, so the electrical risk is modest compared to, say, a garage door spring or a line-voltage panel. But the parts are wired into a control board, and BFT boards don’t tolerate crossed wires or reversed polarity. A single crossed pair can blow the accessory fuse or, worse, damage the board itself and turn a $450 keypad replacement into a $900 board job.
What you can safely do: check the breaker, check for tripped GFCI on any outlet near the gate, look for obvious physical damage to the keypad or reader, and read us the model and revision numbers off the board. What we’ve learned not to recommend: poking a multimeter into a live board you’re not familiar with, or swapping in a keypad or reader from another brand to “see if it works.” We’ve repaired the results of both, and the repair bill is always higher than the part would have been.
Lonnie Burke has had plenty of Henderson calls where the owner just wants the truth about whether a part can be saved. Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you what it needs, usually those are two different things. Call us at (775) 307-6571 and we’ll tell you what we’d bring before we ever get in the truck.
FAQs
Plan on five to eight years for a keypad or card reader mounted in direct southern or western exposure in Henderson, and longer for units in shade or inside a gate column. The heat and UV take out the plastic housing and the display first, not the electronics. We’ve replaced keypads in Anthem that looked like they’d been through a war but still worked, and we’ve replaced two-year-old readers on west-facing walls that died because the housing cracked and let in monsoon rain. If your unit is older than six years and starting to act intermittent, replacement usually makes more sense than repair.
Sometimes yes. A sticking relay can often be replaced at the component level, and we do that when the rest of the board is healthy. But if the board has visible corrosion from a moisture intrusion or the traces are delaminating, repair is a short-term fix at best, and you’ll be back in the same spot. We’ll show you the board and tell you straight what we’d do if it were our gate. Call (775) 307-6571 for a free estimate.
Most keypad or reader replacements run one to two hours on site, including wiring verification and programming. Adding access control to a gate that never had it takes three to five hours, depending on how far we have to pull wire and whether we’re trenching or using existing conduit. We’ll give you a written price and a time window before the work starts.
We keep the common BFT keypads, card readers, relays, and control board components on the truck, along with the adapters that let newer accessories talk to older boards. If your gate needs a part we don’t have in the bin that day, we can usually have it from our Las Vegas supply line within 24 hours. We also work on LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and five other gate brands, so we’re not starting from zero when a BFT gets swapped out for something else.
